More and more nursing services are given at home. Blood tests are one of them and their popularity is growing. Thanks to the nurses who offer this service, it is now possible to have your blood tests taken from the comfort of your own home.

How can I have blood tests at home?

Several nurses offer their service independently through a platform like Vesta. We allow you to make an appointment at a moment that suits you.

When you book an appointment, you follow simple steps and choose a date and time that is convenient for you. In the case of a blood test, you will be asked to include a picture of the medical requisition given by your doctor or other health professional.

You will receive an email confirmation immediately after your reservation, as well as a reminder one day before your appointment.

Your nurse will call you before the appointment to provide additional information and let you know if there are any instructions to follow before the blood test. If you have a latex allergy, please notify your nurse before your appointment; she will wear latex free gloves.

The day of the appointment

The nurse will come to your home and ask you questions to get to know you better. She will answer all your questions, explain the procedure to you and assess your level of comfort with the procedure. If you wish, you can lie down while the sample is taken.

When you are ready, she will do the blood test while ensuring your comfort.

  1. Generally, the nurse makes a puncture at the level of the vein at the fold of the elbow. She places a tourniquet (elastic band) around the chosen arm to help locate and feel the vein.

  2. The nurse then disinfects the area with an alcohol swab and inserts a needle connected to a tube to collect the blood.

  3. Depending on the number of analyzes needed, the amount of blood collected may vary. Often, one or two tubes are enough to perform all the tests requested. The blood drawing itself takes a few seconds.

  4. Once finished, she will label the tubes with your personal information and ensure that you are well.

  5. Before leaving, your nurse will send you your invoice by e-mail, which you will pay online.

  6. She will then have to take the blood samples to a laboratory for analysis.

  7. You can use the receipt to claim reimbursement from your insurance, if applicable.

If other blood tests are necessary to assess your health status, you can repeat the process as often as necessary.
